Great Lakes Adventure - Interlake Steamship Trip

Two lucky couples will board an Interlake Steamship Company vessel for the voyage of a lifetime!  Spend four to six days seeing the Great Lakes region as you’ve never seen it before.  You will make stops in several ports and enjoy accommodations in a beautiful stateroom and on-board meal service in the Officers’ Dining Room.

Great Lakes ships are not certified to carry passengers for hire, so it is impossible to buy a ticket.  The only chance for the general public to enjoy this unique voyage is through nonprofit fund-raisers.  We are proud to include this package in the Fur Ball 2008 Silent Auction.

This trip is for two couples, ages 18 and over and in good health. All food and beverages are included. The length of this voyage will be approximately four to six days and may be taken between the months of June and September.  Tours of the ship’s working areas can be arranged with the Captain, Chief Engineer or Chief Cook, depending on your particular area of interest. Why not see them all?

Bidding for this unique opportunity begins at $5,000.  Visit Cleveland APL's Fur Ball 2008 Homepage for auction and event details. See description/restriction list below for more information and specific details regarding this opportunity.

- From the Interlake Steamship Company -

The Interlake Steamship Company is pleased to offer the Cleveland Animal Protective League a trip aboard an Interlake vessel for the 2009 Navigation Season.  We at Interlake are impressed with the work you do and are honored that we can be a part of the Fur Ball 2008.

  • The trip may begin at a Lake Erie, Detroit River, or St. Clair River port.  The exact departure port will be determined at a later date.
  • Because these are commercial vessels, the actual arrival and departure location, dates and times may vary.
  • As a commercial fleet our vessel boarding procedure is sometimes via a 20 foot "Fireman Type" ladder.  The ability to negotiate this ladder is mandatory.  For safety purposes, Interlake reserves the right to deny passage to anyone who cannot fulfill this requirement.
  • Due to increased Homeland security, a current passport will most likely be required in 2009.  Upon boarding at vessel docks you may be subjected to a random luggage search.  In addition, you and your party will be required to sign a Passenger Release form before you sail.
  • Because of customer demand, trips often do not end in the same port as they begin.  We will try to keep this to a minimum, but cannot guarantee the loading port or unloading port will remain definite.  Should this occur, we will assist with return travel arrangements, but cannot compensate passengers for additional travel expenses.
  • You must keep your schedule very flexible.
  • The length of the voyage will be approximately four to six days.
  • A typical voyage may begin in Detroit, Michigan, proceed up the Detroit River and St. Clair River, across Lake Huron, through the St. Mary's River and Sault Ste. Marie locks, across the largest of the Great Lakes, Lake Superior, and finally to Duluth, Minnesota, or Marquette, Michigan.  At port, the ship will load its cargo for the return passage.
  • The trip is for two couples, 18 and over, and in good health.
  • The trip is for the 2009 season only and may be taken between the months of June and September.  Every effort will be made to accommodate the passengers' desired date for the trip, but no guarantee can be made.
  • Passengers will be served meals in the Officers' Dining Room.  All food and beverages are included.
  • The uniform of the day is 'casual'.
  • With permission of the ship's Captain, passengers will be shown all areas of the vessel.
