CLEVELAND APL Pet Personals

Hi. My name is Nicodemus (14928984)

NicoBut you can call me Nico, or Nic. I’m a 7-year-old male German Shepherd mix and I was surrendered to the Cleveland APL in late December because my family was moving and couldn’t take me along.

I’m generally a pretty happy guy, but I have to admit I’m getting a little depressed here in the shelter. There are a lot of people here who love me and they do everything they can to brighten my days. But even they know that life in a shelter just isn’t the same as life in a home.

I’m really a good dog. I love walking, running and playing, and I’m great with people, even kids! I also know a few tricks, and if you come in to meet me I’ll be glad to show you what I can do.

Hi. My name is Bear (14808875)

BearDecember 7, 2011–a date which will live in infamy. I changed that historical quote a little bit because that’s the date I arrived at the Cleveland APL. And now, two months later, I’m still here.

I’m 6 years old and I had lived in one home my entire life. Sadly, my owner died and there was no one to take care of me. Lots of nice people have taken care of me while I’ve been here. I’ve gone for walks, played in the new play yard out back (I love that!) and enjoyed really good food and treats. But so far no one has come in and taken me home.

I can be a little shy when I first meet people, but if you give me a chance you’ll see how well I walk on a leash and how much I love to run and play. I’m looking forward to the next big date in my life–the date when I go home for keeps.

Hi. We’re Lucy (13748794) and Jo Jo (13748825)

Lucy and Jo JoThat’s me, Lucy, in the front and Jo Jo is behind me. We’re best friends who have been living together for over a decade, including the past six months at the Cleveland APL. So we need to find a new home together.

I’m 11 years old and Jo Jo is 13, so technically we’re seniors. But we still think of ourselves as young girls. We love to curl up together, but we also enjoy playing with toys. And when someone stops by our cage to pet us, well, that is the highlight of our day.

If you don’t mind me bragging a little bit, everyone here has told us how sweet and beautiful we are. The only reason we ended up here was because of a family member’s allergies. We’re very nice and very friendly, and even though we like all the people here, we’d really like to have a home of our own again.

Guess who found their forever homes!

Hi, I’m Irwin! (14981198)

IrwinI’m a 7-year-old male German Shepherd mix and I came to the Cleveland APL all the way from Indiana. Don’t worry–I got a ride.

Because I was transferred here from a shelter that picks up stray dogs, the nice people there didn’t have any background information to send along with me. That’s OK, though. Like all dogs, I live in the moment and leave the past behind.

So what you really need to know about me is that I’m housebroken, I know quite a few commands and I don’t pull on my leash when I get walked. Now that I’ve put this all down in writing, I must say I’m a really great catch.

Come on in and meet me soon.

Hi, I’m Nala! (14502239)

NalaOr as I’m known this time of year, Nala La La La La La La La!

I’m a 4-year-old female Shiba Inu/Australian Cattle Dog mix and I was surrendered because my former owner didn’t have enough time to take care of me.

That made me sad and scared when I first came to the Cleveland APL, but thanks to the nice people here, I got the time I needed to get over it. Then I was able to show everybody that I love to play ball and that I know “sit.” Not only that–I’m house trained! So, if a dog with beauty, brains and a great sense of humor appeals to you, come on in and take me home!

Hi there. I’m A.J.! (14263334)

AJI know it’s not a girly name. Maybe that’s because I’m not a girly-girl!  I love running in circles, playing with all kinds of toys and taking walks.  And I’m very helpful – I’ll even try to hold my own leash when you walk me! I have tons of energy and will make you laugh.

I was found tied up outside so I’m still working on my manners. I like to think of myself as a “diamond in the ruff” (I told you I have a sense of humor). I guarantee I’ll brighten up even the darkest winter day.  Come to the APL and meet me. Your holidays will be even happier if I’m around!

Hi. I’m Cupcake! (14067439)

CupCakeI think I got that name because I’m so sweet. I came to the Cleveland APL about six weeks ago after a nice man found me in the middle of the road and brought me here. I wasn’t in very good shape when I came in–one of my legs was hurt and I had an eye infection. And would you believe I only weighed 1 pound? Well, thanks to the nice man and the nice people here, I’m all better now.

I’m a 2-year-old female dwarf rabbit and I enjoy hopping around, eating carrots and sitting on people’s laps while they pet me. If I sound like someone who would fit into your life, stop by our Beachwood Petco to meet me.

Hi, Everybody. I’m Annette! (14070663)

AnnetteI’m a 2-year-old Pit Bull mix and I just might be the sweetest dog in the world. I’ve been spending some time behind the Adoptions Desk, so I get to check out everyone who comes through our doors.

I sure do love meeting people and they sure do seem to love petting me. I also like collecting toys and arranging them on my blanket, but I’m just starting to figure out that toys are something to play with. I also recently discovered that apples are a really tasty treat. Even though I’m a really nice girl, I do need to learn my basic commands–maybe even a few tricks. I can’t wait to get started!

Hi there. I’m Gillie! (13744613)

GillieI’m an 8-year-old Shepherd mix and, as you can see, I love the great outdoors. Going for a walk is one of my favorite things to do. I’m not as young as I used to be, so I make it a point to get my daily exercise and maintain my girlish figure. My other hobbies are playing with squeaky toys and eating treats.

I was transferred to the Cleveland APL from a shelter that had run out of room. I’m really glad they had room for me here, but I’ve been waiting since August for someone to take me home. I sure hope I won’t have to wait much longer

Hi, I’m Albert! (14441793)

AlbertI’m 5 years old and they say I’m a Beagle mix, but I think I’m all Beagle. I love to follow my nose and learn all about everything around me. I also love meeting new people, which I’ve done a lot since I arrived at the Cleveland APL in early November. (I’ve even been on TV a couple of times, so I’m getting to be a local celebrity.) And I especially love other dogs. Boy, it would be great to find a home where I would have people and a doggie friend to love.

I have to admit I also love food and treats. But since I’ve been getting walked regularly every day for several weeks now, I think I’ve shed a few pounds. If you adopt me, I’ll happily continue my exercise program with you. We’ll be in the best shape of our lives in no time!

Hi! I’m Lola. (13158743)

LolaI’m 10 years old and I’ve been here since May. Unfortunately, my former owner had to give me up because she was moving to a place that doesn’t allow cats. I wasn’t feeling very well when I first got here. I had a cold and I needed to have my teeth cleaned. But the nice people here got me all fixed up and now I feel great. I’m really sweet, I love to be petted, and I get along with other cats. All I need now is a loving home

Hello. I’m Snowball! (14055642)

SnowballI’m a 10-year-old boy and I was brought to the Cleveland APL a couple of months ago because I wasn’t being cared for very well. The nice people here took me in and made me feel much better.

Yes, my ears look a little funny, but thanks to the care I’ve gotten here, my ears work just fine. Of course I have that “selective hearing” that all cats have, but there’s no cure for that! I’m really sweet and I’m used to being around other cats, so I think I’d make a great friend for human and feline alike. I hope to meet you soon!

Hi, everybody! My name is Miss.

MissI’m a 3-year-old female Chow Chow mix who loves people and other dogs. In fact, I like to mother them. Someone has to show them the right way to do things so it might as well be me! A household that includes kids and/or dogs would be perfect for me, but I do need to live in a cat-free environment.

If you’re planning to come in to meet me, make sure to bring the whole family, including your dog.

Hi, everybody. I’m Moya!

MoyaI’m a 6-year-old female Beagle mix and everyone says I’m adorable. I don’t know which I like better–sitting on someone’s lap or running around. So I do both! I’m a good girl, but my Beagle nose is so strong that I just have to go wherever it leads me––like right through a door that somebody left open.

Hmmm, that could be how I wound up in the shelter. Let’s make a deal: If you adopt me, you promise to keep the doors closed and I’ll promise to be on my best behavior.

Hi there. I’m Valiant!

ValiantThat’s my name and my personality! I’m brave and courageous. Well, really I’m just a fun-loving, playful guy, but I bet I’d be brave and courageous if I ever needed to be!

Anyway, I used to have a home, but unfortunately my family had to surrender me because of some changes in their circumstances.

I’ve met some very nice people here at the Cleveland APL, although they seem to think that I’m a senior just because I’m 8 years old. Let me tell you, I have the spunk and energy of a much younger dog, but unlike some of those pups, I’m obedient and housetrained. So, adopt me and you’ll get the best of both worlds!

Hi, everyone. We’re Mac and Sally and we’re best friends!

Mac and SallyThat’s me, Mac, on the left and Sally is behind me. We came in to the shelter together in July and are now sharing a cage on the cat adoption floor. Everyone here has been really nice to us, but we want to get a home of our own–as long as there is room for both of us. Sally and I are both 2 years old and we’re really nice cats.

We love each other and we love people too, so we’re sure we could make someone very happy. I’m also very proud to tell you we’re both litter box trained. Please come in soon to meet us.

Hi! I’m Granny, and I WANT YOU to adopt me!

GrannyI’m an 11-year-old lady and I’m having trouble competing with all of these kittens in the shelter. Everyone who visits loves the cute little ones, so what’s a senior gal to do but take matters into her own paws?

I got over my kitten behaviors long ago, but I still have a lot of good years left. So if you’re looking for a cat to provide quiet companionship as you go about your daily routine, look no further.

Hi there! I’m Bounce!

BounceI’m an 8-year-old Beagle mix girl, but don’t let my “senior” status fool you. I’ve still got a lot of spring in my step. Hey, maybe that’s how I got my name! Anyway, I don’t really know why I’m here. I used to have a home, but suddenly one day in April I was brought to the Cleveland APL.

I’ve met a lot of really nice people here, but I’m still waiting for that special someone to take me home. You can see some photos and even a short video of me on the Adoptions page. Even better, you can come here and meet me!

  Hi, everyone. I’m Be-Bop-A-Lula!

LulaBut you can call me Lula if you want. I’m a 3-year-old Lab-Retriever-Shepherd mix. Just take the best traits of three great breeds, mix ’em together, and you’ve got me!! I know some commands, I walk very nicely on my leash and I love people.

Now I just need someone to fall in love with me and take me home. Interested? Come on in to the Cleveland APL and meet me.

Hi, everybody. I’m Hamchops!

HamchopsI’m a 3-year-old Cane Corso mix and I’ve been at the Cleveland APL for almost two months!

The other day a visitor walked by my cage and said I have a face that only a mother could love. So I really hope I get a mom soon so she can love my face–and the rest of me, too! I’d even be willing to share my new mom with an entire family.

I’m an energetic and strong boy, so I’m looking for a family that’s ready to play!!

Hi, everyone. I’m Buddy. I come by my name honestly because I’m really friendly.

BuddyIn fact, my Feline-ality is Sidekick, which means I’m a great companion. You know, I’m only a year old, but I’ve been waiting for someone to adopt me for almost three months. That’s a quarter of my life! The staff and volunteers here take great care of me and the shelter is a much better place than the streets, which is where I came from. But I sure would like to have a real home.

If you need a Buddy in your life, come on in and meet me. This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship!

Hi, Everybody! My name is Buddy, and I’m a really good boy!

BuddyI am an 8-year-old Wheaten Terrier mix and I get along with everybody, even cats! I am housebroken and will sit for treats. And I also don’t jump on people, which they really seem to appreciate. The ladies here also tell me I’m very handsome!

I had been staying in a shelter in Indiana, but it got too crowded. Luckily, the Cleveland APL had room and took me in. I’ve made friends with lots of the volunteers and staff here, but I’d really like to find a home.

I’m a very smart dog, but I can’t figure out why I’m still living in a shelter! Why don’t you come down and meet me this weekend? I’ll be looking for you!

Woof!  My name is Mark, and I am a very sweet and special hound mix.

MarkI was originally brought to the Cleveland APL in September by a rescue group that transfers dogs from high-volume shelters with time restrictions to shelters with no time or space limits.  I got adopted quicky--which is no surprise, since I am rather adorable--but my adopter had to bring me back because his roommate was allergic to me.  He did mention that we should let people know that I am an excellent dog, and that I picked up on housetraining very quickly!

I am an active boy and I would love to go home with a family who would keep me busy with lots of walks and playtime.  If you think that I am a good match for you, please come down to the shelter and meet with me!

Looking for a purr-fectly sweet and quiet cat to share your home with?  Well, here I am!  My name is Melanie, and I am almost three years old.

MelanieI am a beautiful black and white kitty, and I am ready to find a purr-manent home.  I was brought to the APL almost a year ago when I was found as a stray.  They were so nice to me here...they gave me my shots, spayed me, and gave me a place to stay until I was adopted early this year.  I wound up back here in June after my adopter had some health issues.  The staff and volunteers here did a Feline-ality test on me and determined that I am a Private Investigator.  You can come down to the Cleveland APL and take a Meet Your Match assessment to see if I am the fantastic feline for you!

My name is Chester, and I am a distinguished and dappurr cat
looking for a family to call my own!

ChesterI was originally adopted from the Cleveland APL in 2006, but I was brought back because I wasn't getting along with the other animals in the home.

To be purrfectly honest, I would really like to live in a home where I am the ONLY pet.  I absolutely love people...I just don't like to share my people with any other furry friends.

If you have a home that is a little too lonely and could use a fabulous feline, come down to the Cleveland APL and meet with me today!

Hello, my name is Chuck and I would like to introduce you to myself
and my best buddy, Banjo.

ChuckBanjoI am a three year old male beagle and Banjo is a 4 year old male Akita mix.  We lived together in our old home, and we would really love to go to a new home together.  Poor Banjo is a pretty shy guy, but he is much more comfortable around me!  We both love to cuddle and snuggle, and we will never turn down a treat.

The APL staff performed Canine-ality tests on us and found that I am a Busy Bee and Chuck is a Constant Companion. (This means that Chuck is a pretty low-key guy, but I can use a bit of exercise each day.)  If you have been thinking about adding a dashing duo of dogs to your home, get down to the Cleveland APL and ask to meet with us!

My name is Lexi and I think that I could be the perfect pooch for you!

LexiI was brought to the APL in August because my owner was moving and could not bring me along.  I can be a little on the timid side at first, but once I get a chance to get to know you I am very affectionate!

Peanut butter treats and long walks are my absolute favorite.

I am seven years young, and everyone here at the shelter tells me that I am a stunning dog.  I would love to repay you with constant companionship if you adopt me and give me the love and care that I deserve!

Have you been waiting to adopt a perfectly petite pooch?  Well, search no more!
My name is Famous and I am a 3 year old Poodle mix.

FamousI was attacked by another dog before I was brought to the Cleveland APL, and due to the generosity of the many people who donate to the shelter's Second Chance Fund, the staff here were able to treat me for my pain and injuries!  It felt really great to receive the care that I needed, and to know that I was well on my way to finding a furever home.  During my examinations here, the veterinarian  noted that I have a few conditions that will require medical attention.

I promise to give you nothing but love and affection if you adopt me and give me the medical care and kindness that I need.  I really am a playful--and adorable--little guy and I think that I would make a great addition to any family!

My name is Roger, and I would love to come home and become a part of your family.  I am a very striking rabbit--just take a look at my handsome spots!

RogerI was brought to the Cleveland APL in February of this year from a rescue group who was running out of space.  Upon my arrival, I was treated for a wound and given a nice warm place to stay.  As nice as it is here, I would really like to have my own family more than anything.  I can be a little shy, but if you give me time to get to know you I am a very sweet boy!  If you are thinking of adding a rabbit to your family come to the APL to meet with me--and some of the other rabbits, for that matter.  You won't be disappointed if you make adoption your option!

Hi I'm Timber!  I'm a handsome four-year-old Rottweiler mix,
and let me tell you, I am ready to find my furever home.

Timber I have had a bit of bad luck lately--one of my previous owners got sick and another family of mine ended up moving--but I won't let that get me down!  Kennel number 2Timber is where you can find me at the Cleveland APL.  (You will know it's me, because you can hear my tail thumping on the wall as soon as you enter the dog adoption room.)  My Canine-ality has been described as a Go-Getter, which means that I am active and ready for anything.  I enjoy being around people and children. I love going for walks and playing with squeaky toys and I promise to become a loving member of your family in no time!  Why not come down to the APL and meet with me today?

Hi! My name is Cheesy and I am ready to become a part of your family!

CheesyI am a smart, six year old female Collie mix with beautiful cream and white markings.  My owner was moving and could not take me with him, so he brought me to the Cleveland APL so I can find a new, loving home.

Everyone here at the shelter is very impressed by my tricks--I can sit, lay down, and even give you my paw!  I would really love to meet with you and your family.  If you are considering adding a playful pooch to your home, make adoption your first option and come down to the APL today!

Excuse me, but are you thinking of adopting a dog?  Let me introduce myself!  My name is Jade, and I have been at the Cleveland APL for a little over a month now.

Jade I have to admit, I was a nervous wreck at first.  The people--and animals--here are very nice, but I am used to a quiet environment and that is not always the case here in the shelter!  I would really love to be adopted by someone who has a relatively quiet home, and I am more than happy to share that home with a cat or two. (I did live with cats and dogs before.)  I would do best with children over 14, because as I said, I do get nervous when things get very noisy.

I overheard one of the APL staff members saying that I am really starting to "come out of my shell" and that she is happy with the progress I am making.  That makes me feel pretty good.  Instead of hiding in my kennel, I am trying my best to show people that I'm a good girl.  I even come to the door and wag my tail when potential adopters walk through the dog adoption room, but everyone keeps passing me up.  I know that I'm a little chubby, but I really do like going for walks.  I promise that I will keep you company while you take a nice stroll every day!  You can even put me on a diet, I won't complain.

It makes me happy to see my canine friends here get adopted, but I would like to find my furever home, too.  Will you give me a chance?  The adoption staff will be more than willing to have me meet with your family (including any dogs you may have) to see if we are a perfect match!

My name is Betty, and I am looking for someone to love.

BettyI am a very sweet eight year old Shepherd mix waiting at the Cleveland APL for my furever home.  I can be a bit shy at first, but if you would just take a little bit of time to get to know me, you will see that I am a complete snuggle bug!  The summer is over, and I promise to be the perfect couch potato companion during the chilly fall and winter nights.  I would do best in a quiet home, preferably with adults and older children.  Many of the visitors to the shelter pass right by my kennel, even though I always sit at the front and quietly wag my tail. I think that my age may be putting them off, but let me tell you--for a senior dog, I still have a lot of love to give.  If you make me a member of your family and give me the love and medical care that I deserve, I will give back all the love and kisses that you can handle!  If you are thinking about giving a senior animal a home, you should certainly come down the APL and meet with me.

My name is Joaquin and I just might be the purrrfect cat for you!

JoaquinI am a very handsome brown tabby of about 4 years old.  A nice man found me and my friend in his yard and he fed us for awhile before deciding to take us to the shelter...but that was back in April.  My buddy was adopted in May, but I am still waiting for my perfect match.  The staff and volunteers here at the APL tell me all the time how sweet I am, and that I will find my furever home soon.  I've been Feline-ality tested as a Private Investigator, which does mean that I am a little on the shy side.  I would love to become a part of a quiet family.  Although it will take me a little time to get used to my new surroundings, I will eventually keep a watchful eye on you and our home at all times!

Hi My name is Revol! And I found my forever Home!

Revol BeforeRevol is a 10-month-old Single, Spotted Male Dalmatian mix who came to us with a very severe case of mange.  It was so severe (and painful for Revol) that we weren’t sure he had Dalmatian in him, as he had very little fur, thus no visible spots.  Revol received much needed medical care through our Second Chance program and spent several months in a loving foster home, recovering and regaining his puppy playfulness.

RevolOur vets say his difficult start in life is behind him now, and Revol is now ready to be a cherished member of a loving family.   Now that Revol is no longer itchy and in pain, we have learned that he loves people, squeaky toys, and tennis balls!
