We adopted Maynard just a little over two years ago..When we went to the APL on March 9th, we did not know whether we were going to find the right dog for us. They were all great but we did not connected with any right away. Until we saw him. All the other dogs were up and many were barking, but not him. He just sat there leaning against the gate looking up at us with the saddest face I have ever saw. Max was the name he had at the time and next to that it said, "I'm deaf, but I'll still make a great dog." We did not even think twice; we knew that he was the dog for us. We took him home and we leaned to understand each other--hand signals and taping your foot on the floor to get his attention--he is just as smart as any dog that can hear. It is sad how many people walked past him cause he was deaf, but it turned out good for us. I tell anyone who asks about him that deaf pets make just as good pets as hearing ones, so don't overlook them cause they are deaf/blind or have a disability... '
P.S. You can see how spoiled he is... |
